TRANSFORMATION OF GOVERNANCE SYSTEMS IN SAKHISIZWE

On 28 April, the Trust for Community Outreach and Education (TCOE), CALUSA, and Sakhisizwe Research and Information Centre (SIRC) jointly organised a workshop to discuss ideas for transforming the governance processes in Sakhisizwe. This idea arises from discussions within civil society (including non-governmental organisations and tertiary institutions 1) regarding the need to democratise governance in South Africa. For instance, TCOE has a national programme focused on the Democratisation of Governance. This programme addresses municipal governance, governance in areas under traditional authorities, and governance on commercial farms. In other words, it examines governance while considering the current configuration of South Africa. Similarly, one of CALUSA’s focal areas is also the democratization of governance in the three spatial areas of South Africa. Specifically, CALUSA advocates for the inclusion of communities and their organs as a third component in municipal governance, as stipulated in legislation.
